A sunken construction barge on the Chicago River in downtown Chicago was reported to the NRC on July 10, 2014. The barge supported construction equipment which entered the river. The equipment contains diesel fuel, motor oil and hydraulic oil, which threatens a release to the waterway.

EPA is responding by coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard to review salvage plans and conduct oversight of salvage and response operations.
