On Monday, August 6th, 2012, an oil leak was detected on Lagos Dos Bocas from the sister vessel of the the large sunken vessel that was identified to be the source of a sheen on July 26, 2012. The recreational area of the Lago Dos Bocas is a reservoir constructed by PREPA. The primary purpose of the recreation area is to transport (both private boats and PR DOT [DTOP]) guests to restaurants lining the lake - these restaurants are only accessible by boats.

The reservoir serves a dual purpose - hydro electric power and water supply for PRASA. The intake for the the turbines is at the dam. (within about 500 yards from the sheen). The gates are open when there is a power requirement, or PRASA requires water.
