At 1400 on August 17, 2016, Derrick Turner with Larimer County reported to the NRC that an unknown party had attempted to drop 11 drums of what was described as industrial "automotive wastes" at the Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste Facility (LCHHWF). Operators at the LCHHWF informed the party that the waste could not be processed there. Shortly thereafter this person was seen abandoning a trailer containing the drums along the county right of way adjacent to the landfill. Personnel from Larimer County brought the drums inside the landfill property, secured them, and called the NRC, requesting EPA assistance. OSC Peronard and a three man ERRS crew were dispatched to the facility on the morning of August 18, 2016, to arrange for the removal and proper disposal of the abandoned waste.
