On November 11, 2022, at approximately 0500 local time, an unknown quantity of Manganese-Aluminum powder was released onto soil and into a wetland due to a collision on I-70, mile-marker 132 in Licking County, OH. The semi-tractor trailer hauling drums of the Manganese-Aluminum powder was struck causing the vehicle to roll into the adjacent wetland. The semi was operated by William H Trucking, LLC. of Pittsburgh, PA and contained approximately 16 to 18 pallets of 55-gallon drums. Approximately 20 to 25, 55-gallon drums ruptured its contents and at least four of those drums were released into the wetlands. The released metals are water-reactive, and the resulting product has continued to emit gas due to moisture from rain and the wetland. The release occurred within EPA Jurisdiction.
