EPA's Emergency Response Program got a request for assistance at the United Cold Storage Warehouse in Loveland Colorado. There were reportedly approximately 50 drums that had been abandoned with the facility, and there was question on the drum contents. One drum was also bulging, potentially posing a risk of catastrophic release.
EPA staff responded with members of the Superfund Technical Assistance Response Team (START) to assess the condition and contents of the drums/containers in order to identify a path forward to safely resolve the situation.
Field work is currently under way, with many of the hazards associated with the bulging drum being mitigated and laboratory results for the remainder of the contents expected by mid August.
