On February 15, 2014 Delaware Department of Natural Resources notified EPA of a debris pile fire at the Mike Davidson Enterprises LLC facility in Camden Wyoming, Delaware. On February 16 the EPA OSC met DNREC at the facility. A large pile of what appeared to be construction and demolition debris was on fire. Plastic, rubber, metal, and other material was observed in the debris. Hydrogen Sulfide was detected in the area of the fire and downwind of the fire. DNREC was conducting operations to extinguish the fire by dousing the debris with water and dismantling the burning area of the pile.
On February 20 DNREC requested EPA assistance in extinguishing the fire. EPA met with DNREC on site to transition from a DNREC led emergency response action to an EPA emergency removal action. The primary goal of the EPA action was to extinguish the debris fire.
