: BNSF Oil Tank Car Derailment - Seattle, Washington. On morning of 24 July 2014, Region 10 was notified of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailment that occurred approximately 2:00 AM under the Magnolia Bridge near Elliott Bay in Seattle. The derailment occurred when a train contained 102 tank cars carrying Bakken crude oil was leaving the Interbay rail yard. Reportedly, two tank cars are off the rail and leaning at a 45 degree pitch under the bridge, but not presently leaking. The tank cars reportedly contain Bakken crude oil from North Dakota, and were headed to refinery in Anacortes. OSC Andy Smith was dispatched to the scene to obtain situational awareness and determine need for response oversight. Washington Department of Ecology is responding, as is BNSF hazmat team.
