The USEPA’s Emergency Response Program and Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in coordination with McKenzie and Springfield Fire sponsored a fast water oil spill response course on the McKenzie River near Eugene May 24-26, 2005.
The objective of the training event was to help build capacity and strengthen relationships at the local, state and federal levels to respond to oil and hazardous material releases.
This 3-day course was provided to Federal, State, and local responders stationed within DEQ’s Western Region that are involved in inland oil spill prevention, response and cleanup efforts. The course was a hands-on practical spill training for fast water river systems.
35 class participants spent three days deploying boom and learning appropriate techniques for boom deployment and oil recovery on fast water systems.
