The McAlester Fire Department reported to the NRC (#845467) that visible mercury was identified on walls and floors of a residential home. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality requested EPA assistance to investigate this matter. According to one of the residents approximately 15 pounds of mercury was spilled. The mercury had been in a container left behind by the previous owner of the house.
Reportedly this spill occurred approximately 2 years ago. The EPA dispatched START contractors to conduct air monitoring in the home on August 13, 2007.
