On 11/05/2007 a manometer from a blood pressure cuff was broken by a staff member at Mercer Island Primary Care. The mercury was contained within a single examination room where the spill occured. During the spill, mercury splashed onto the stockings and shoes of the staff member who broke the instrument.The Mercer Island Fire Department was notified of the spill as was Washington Department of Ecology who notified the US EPA.
Mercer Island Primary Care contacted an emergency response contractor to perform removal activities, while Washington Department of Ecology asked the US EPA to provide technical assisstance in air monitoring.
