On 09/14/10, a tanker loaded with 45,000 lbs. of Methyl Methacrylate Monomer (MMA) crashed and rolled over on I-65 at MM 82 northbound near Sonora, KY at about 1630 hrs. EDT. No one was injured.

Responders discovered material leaking from the tanker and KDEP ERT requested EPA assistance.

OSC. Smith arrived on 09/14 @ 1900 Hrs. At that time, the leak had stopped and there were 0% LEL readings. Miller Transporters spill team and a cleanup contractor arrived to begin a transfer operation, which was completed around 2345 hrs. The tanker was uprighted, and a small area in the drainage ditch was observed to have been affected, confirming the original report of a spill. It is estimated that less than 30 gallons of product was spilled in the accident. OSC Smith demobilized at 0150 hrs. on 09/15/10

KDEP will supervise the remaining soil cleanup.
