At 2:40 p.m. MGE called the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 Spill Line. MGE was pulling their natural gas line from under the Little Blue River. MGE stated they did not realize there was oil in the pipeline as well. An unknown amount of oil spilled into the river at approximately 2:30p.m. The spill occurred across from the Bayer Plant at I-435 and Little Blue River. MGE has a response contractor on their way out with a vac truck and boom.

The EPA Duty Officer deployed On-Scene Coordinator Heitman (R-1) to the Scene at 2:45 p.m. The EPA Duty Officer will open the Oil Fund for assessment activities.
