Beginning in 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency, and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have established the Patoka River Planning Area. The purpose of the planning area is to evaluate potential sources of spills that may affect the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge and Management Area, and to undertake spill response planning.
