On January 8, 2016, the Indiana Department Environmental Management (IDEM) Emergency Response (ER) reported seepage of oil along the bank of Prairie Creek in Clinton County, Frankfort, Indiana.

The County highway department is constructing a new bridge crossing over Prairie Creek and encountered an oil seep from the Creek’s western bank. IDEM ER has been working with the County/consultant on designs for a slurry wall/sheet piling, but IDEM ER is requesting EPA assistance since the source of oil may not be encountered or removed during the County’s construction.

IDEM does not have the resources to fully investigate and remedy the risk of oil discharge. The parcels adjacent to the creek are owned by the Clinton County Board of Commissioners.

OSC Anita L. Boseman visited the site on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, to obtain written access and investigate the source of the oil seepage. The OPA fund has been opened for $15,000.
