The Sebring Industrial Plating Site was an electroplating facility since 1957.  The facility has been the subject of multiple Ohio EPA enforcement investigations and the facility ceased operations in March 2021.   Ohio EPA referred the site to EPA in March 2021 due to the presence of unsecured hazardous waste, including, but not limited to:  approximately 75 drums and totes, 50 small containers of hazardous waste, hundreds of aerosol spray cans, and approximately 30 open chemical vats.  A portion of the facility roof has collapsed causing the potential for vats of plating liquids to overflow.   

EPAs actions will be focused on removing hazardous materials from inside the building and inspecting the soil surrounding the facility to determine if a release tot he environment occurred.   A previous Fund-Lead removal action occurred at this facility in 2012 and was focused on the removal of outside waste sludge pits.

Area B as of 8/31/21. Most of the vats have been moved and staged in Area A. The sludge contents of HT-04 was being placed into a poly lined roll off box. Safety cage structure built by the PE and ERRS which has been staged in area B under the failing roof. Checked for a UST around a concrete pad with pipe. There was no evidence of a UST found. Composite samples collected by ERRS who samples the floor solids and pile of dirt/debris on the East side of the building. ERRS pumped the fluids out of the sump which is located along the Western wall of Area A. ERRS obtaining soil samples from a residents property which borders the northern part of the building. The third large poly tank in Area A was broken down. The fluids were pumped into totes. The roof in Area B has become more unstable. ERRS noticied pieces of the ceiling falling during heavy rain storms. The area has been blocked off until there is a solution. 15 totes which were genreated from pumping fluids out of vats staged in Area A. Additional vats in Area B were pumped out into poly totes. Two large poly containers (PT-01 & 02) were broken down for disposal. The sludge was solidified and containerized for disposal. Small containers which were lab packed by Clean Earth Progress in Area A with sorted drums. Area C cleared out. The areas where soil samples were taken were marked with orange marking paint.
