On 7/16/13 it was reported to Idaho State Communciations Center that a 500 gallon capacity above ground fuel tank containing up to 250 gallons of unleaded gasoline was lodged on an island in the Salmon River approximately 30 miles NNW of Salmon. The tank was carried into the River from a private residence by a mud slide that occurred on 6/29/13. Since the mud slide there had been several reports from boaters seeing sheen discharging from the tank, but it was not reported to the State nor to the National Response Center until over 2 weeks later. On 7/16/2013, EPA was requested to respond by the State of Idaho and U.S. Forest Service. On 7/17/13, EPA OSC Weigel and ERRS contractor mobilized to the site and recovered the tank. The tank was empty except for a few gallons of water with a gasoline odor and sheen. The few gallons of gas/water mixture in the tank were recovered, and the tank returned to the property from where it came.
