On May 1, 2015, the National Park Service requested assistance from EPA in determining the contents of 4 drums and cylinders that had been found on Shi Shi Beach by a volunteer cleanup crew around April 22, 2015 in the Wilderness area. On May 4, EPA OSC Parker and three others hiked in 4 miles with NPS officer Isch and performed testing to determine the contents. Two drums were found to be empty. Two cylinders appeared to contain Liquid Propane but START was unable to crack open the valves. Plans are being made to return and open the cylinders and test the contents. The cylinders were marked with caution tape and left on the beach above the high tide line.
