At approximately 24:00 01/28/2019 (midnight) EPA received and NRC report (NRC#1236142) submitted by the Lynn, MA Fire Department. The report indicated that at least 100 gallons of gasoline had been discovered in a sewer line at 145 Monroe Street in Lynn on 01/27/2019. Massachusetts DEP responders are on scene, and are working with the Lynn Fire department to assess the situation and mitigate the release. The source of the release has been tentatively identified as the Speedway gas station at 122 Liberty Street, Lynn, MA. DEP and the Fire Department are monitoring the basements of buildings in the area for the presence of combustible gas. One commercial building was found have elevated combustible gas levels. Actions were taken to increase ventilation, and the commercial building was temporarily evacuated.
