At approximately 3:00 PM on 5/8/2025, EPA was notified by the National Response Center (NRC) that Citation Oil & Gas (RP) reported discharging 415 barrels (bbls) from their Tatums Field Unit in Ratliff City, Carter County, Oklahoma. Upon follow up, the RP reported that the crude oil discharge impacted a drainage path and approximately 20 miles of Wildhorse Creek, which flows into the Washita River. The RP has an OSRO contractor on-site responding. The cause of the incident is reported to be a malfunctioning valve.

Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) has been notified of the incident. US Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) has been notified.

EPA has activated an On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contractors to respond and provide federal oversight to the RP on cleanup actions. On May 27,2025, EPA completed its emergency response activities at the Tatums Field Unit Oil Spill.
