On March 18, 2026 at approximately 7:36 AM, the EPA was notified
of a 26-car train derailment with a potential release of ethanol from two
derailed rail cars, near rail milepost 34 located in Rosenberg, Fort Bend
County, Texas. The cause of the derailment is currently unknown. The incident
occurred on a railway that intersects a residential area. The Brazos
River is located approximately 0.4 miles from the incident location. The
railway is owned by Union Pacific Railroad (UP). UP personnel are responding to
the incident.
EPA has deployed a Federal On‑Scene Coordinator and the START
contractor to respond to the incident. EPA is coordinating closely with
the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas Department of Emergency
Management, and other state and local responders.
