At 0945 on 10/3/2017, while conducting construction on a pipeline, an existing 8” pipeline owned by Velocity Midstream was struck by a drill resulting in a discharge of approximately 400 bbls of crude oil. The incident occurred near Alex, Grady County, Oklahoma. The pipeline has been isolated, however approximately 350 bbls of crude oil impacted a nearby unnamed creek which flows to the Washita River. The crude oil is currently contained in the creek, response actions are ongoing (including vac trucks to remove the oil), and additional response contractors have been mobilized. EPA Region 6 has mobilized an OSC and START contractors to the incident.
