Twelve 300 gallon totes containing 75% Food grade Phosphoric acid were spilled during a trucking accident on the ramp from Interstate 40 east to I440 south.
The totes were damaged and released approximately 2,000 gallons of product into the environment. The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
A grass fire was ignited by the wreck, which closed the ramp and adjacent ramps in the interchange.
North Little Rock Fire Department and YRC response contractors stabilized the damaged totes which were later pumped off into new totes for off-site disposal.
EPA provided air monitoring support at the scene for response activites.
The ramps were reopened to traffic at approximately 2020 hrs on 27 June. Removal of the contaminated soil and vegetation was to be completed the morning of 28 June.
