The Site is a former plating shop operated by Allied Metal Finishing, aka Allied Platers, from 1950 until 1999 when it was abandoned. It consists of a one-story, approximately 2,500-square-foot concrete and steel building and sits on approximately 0.17 acres. It is abutted by a commercial/residential building to the north, a gravel parking area and Wolcott St. to the east, an empty lot and residential building to the south, and a commerical building and paved parking lot to the west. On July 18, 2013, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) requested EPA assistance. Yellow waste identifited by CTDEEP as hexavalent chromium {Cr(VI)} was emanating from the building onto the unrestricted gravel parking lot, posing a contact threat to the residents.
