The Atlantic Wood Industries Site (AWI) is an active remedial Site which is listed on the National Priorities List.

During construction activities, heavy creosote contamination was discovered in a City sewer. This sewer is within the Site boundaries and is part of the construction activity. The EPA Remedial Project Manager for the Site requested EPA's assistance to clean and remove this sewer box to prevent creosote contamination from entering the Elizabeth River.
