The 2010 removal action was conducted during 2011 - 2013. The current work effort, initiated in July 2017, is considered to be post removal site control measures as discussed in Pollution Report #7.

The site has been divided into two operable units (OU). This removal action includes activities in OU 1, which contains the Middle Galena Creek drainage. The Middle Galena Creek drainage is located in the center of the site, downstream of Green Creek and Upper Galena Creek. It encompasses about 1,178 acres and includes Galena Creek from the Block P Mine through the town of Barker. The Upper Galena Creek drainage also includes Silver Creek and Bend Gulch Creek. There are a total of 19 mines located within this drainage, the largest of which is the Block P Mine. Water quality in Galena Creek is poor throughout the drainage due to influences from the Block Mine Complex and upstream and downstream tributaries with mine waste, numerous adit discharges and impacted groundwater. Creek water is often rust-colored, the pH seasonally low, and the stream bed is iron stained.
