The Village of Bellaire is located along the Ohio River. The public water supply for the Village of Bellaire consists of a surface water (river) infiltration gallery and a vertical ground water production well.

Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was detected in Bellaire wells in 1989. Since then, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have been investigating volatile organic compounds (VOC), including PCE, in groundwater at Bellaire.

In 2015, the EPA Region 5 Emergency Response Branch (ERB) began an assessment for vapor intrusion (VI) in Bellaire. Vapor intrusion refers to indoor air pollution caused by the movement of chemicals from sub-surface soils and groundwater into nearby buildings. EPA's investigation produced a final Site Assessment Report which is posted under Documents of this website.
