Galveston Bay Biofuels Tank Fire

OSC Warren Zehner and START contractors have been dispatched to a multiple tank fire on Galveston Island. The initial report from the State of Texas State Operations Center (SOC) indicated a sulfur tank explosion on Pelican Island, Galveston County. There is a shelter-in-place at the Texas A&M Galveston Campus. One firefighter has been injured due to smoke inhalation. There is a shortage of water at the hydrants but the firefighters are attacking the fire with fire fighting foam. The winds are from the southwest blowing towards the bay away from any inhabited areas. EPA, TCEQ, Galveston Police Department, Galveston Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS), Texas City Fire Department and Texas Division of Emergency Management District Coordinator are responding.
