The National Response Center (NRC) notified EPA Region 6 of a 5000-gallon spill of an asphaltic material from a tank truck operated by Castus Transport into a creek at the Santa Fe National Forest in Sandoval Co., NM. EPA contacted the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) in Santa Fe, who reported the incident to the NRC, to get an update and gather more information about the incident. The USFS corroborated the volume (about 120 bbl) and indicated the material was not solidifying and going into a creek. The creek is heavily flowing due to recent rains. Also, information was not clear as to the response capabilities of the RP and the USFS requested EPA assistance with the response.  OSC Enders and an EPA Team were deployed to the site.
