On May 1, 2017, at approximately 1543 hours, the North Carolina DENR responded to a report of a petroleum product floating on a pond. Their initial assessment estimated that approximately 200-400 gallons of diesel had been discharged into a pond and that the diesel was migrating from the pond into a creek. The NC DENR requested EPA assistance. R1 OSC Stilman and EPA ERRS contractor responding. ERRS deployed boom and began recovery of oil and oily water. The banks of pond and creek have been impacted by the discharge. A fish kill has also occurred. OSC Stilman will coordinate activities with NC DENR and local officials.
