On June 27, 2007 United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was notified by the Lousiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) about mercury inside a private residence in Chalmette, LA. The family's youngest child was found to have very high concentrations of mercury in his blood and urine. The other family members will also be tested for mercury. The source of the Mercury is unknown at this time. On the evening of June 27, 2007 EPA OSC Martin tasked START-3 to assess the situation and the presence of residential mercury contamination.

START-3 visited and monitored the residencial home on June 28. After briefing OSC Martin, ERRS contractors were tasked to first make a site walk with OSC Martin and OSC Hayes on Friday, June 29. After the site walk, ERRS were tasked to immediately begin implementation of an emergency response per the OSC's warrant authority.
