At the request of EPA's Caribbean Environmental Protection Division (CEPD) EPA responded to an incident involving a smoke plume from a landfill fire on Tortola (BVI) impacting residents of St John, in the vicinity of Coral Bay,

ERRD has deployed an OSC, an ERT representative and two SERAS contractors with sampling equipment. The team should arrive at the sampling location on St. John by 1800 hours on 9/9/2010.

EPA has notified the US Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) and is coordinating response efforts through Jim Casey, the EPA rep in St. Thomas.

EPA responded to assist the local government.
