The Currie Avenue Site is located at the intersection of Currie Avenue and Steel Street in the Deep Creek section of the City of Chesapeake, VA. The Site was used as a former salvage yard. Several years ago a large fire occurred at the Site.

The former operator of the Site is now deceased and the property is no longer operating as a salvage operation. Because of the Site's location, the Chesapeake Fire Marhsal's Office reports frequent trespass in the area.

Minimal sampling performed in 2004 indicated lead contamination in the surface soils which exceeded the regulatory requirements. Additionally, diesel compounds were found in the soils.

Since the Site is essentially abandoned, the City of Chesapeake has requested EPA assistance to peform a sampling assessment of surface and subsurface soils and groundwater and has asked EPA to make a determination if removal actions are warranted.
