On Friday, November 25, 2005, Delta Fuels at 1820 Front St., Toledo, OH experienced a 103,000 Gallon overflow of Tank #3 (of 5), which are all 2.3 million gallon gasoline tanks. During a transfer of product from a pipeline, the material was incorrectly directed to Tank #3 rather than Tank #4. Delta Fuels estimated that the overflow occured for more than one hour. Delta became aware of the problem upon the arrival of the local fire department, who had received complaints from nearby residents of gasoline vapors. The fire department evacuated the buildings immediately to the northeast and the ODOT construction workers to the south. Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) contractors confronted Delta multiple times regarding strong gasoline fumes in their temporary office trailers. Ohio EPA (OEPA) informed US EPA of the release and upon arrival, the OSCs learned that the spill had breeched the secondary containment, and entered the storm sewer system, which flows directly to the Maumee River. The OSCs observed no liquid pooling within the secondary containment and an inadequate secondary containment system with vegetation growth and multiple animal burrows. Delta Fuels began attempts to isolate the source of seepage from their secondary containment and continued their product recovery efforts. Delta Fuels filed a NRC report in the evening hours of the 29th.

Delta Fuels is bordered to the Northwest by Front Street, Interstate 280 to the Southwest, and an on ramp to I-280 from Front to the highway around the remainder of the sight.
