TCEQ notified EPA of a residential property in San Antonio, Texas which the local health department and the TCEQ regional office reported to have elevated lead levels. Health department results indicated soil lead concentrations ranging from 2,234 ppm in the front yard to 51,108 ppm in the back yard. A number of empty shell casings were also found in the soil and TCEQ contacted Lackland AFB for assistance in identifying the munitions and to request a scan of the site for potential ordnance due to the proximity of the site to the AFB. At this time there is no known connection between Lackland AFB and the munitions found at the residence.
TCEQ requested EPA assistance for assessment and cleanup of the residential property. OSC Enders and an EPA team are mobilizing to meet with local, state and federal officials to further assess site conditions.
