At approximately 1730 on May 21, the National Response Center notified EPA Region 6 that Exxon Chemical is flaring multiple chemicals due to a compressor trip. OSC Mason spoke to Exxon, who indicated the flaring may continue through the night. The unit should be up and running by morning. Exxon is initiating fence-line monitoring, as well as monitoring in the community to ensure no off-site impacts. LDEQ will also be out in the neighborhood to ensure no impacts. OSC Mason has activated the START – Baton Rouge to conduct hand-held air monitoring in the neighborhood. The following chemicals are being flared, as reported by Exxon:

BUTADIENE
BENZENE
ETHYLENE
HYDROGEN SULFIDE
ISOPRENE
NITROGEN OXIDE
SULFUR DIOXIDE
TOLUENE
