On May 20, 2016, the Michigan Department of Health &Human Services requested EPA assistance at the Grand Rapids Vapor Intrusion Site in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Elevated levels of perchloroethylene (PCE) have been detected in the indoor air in four residential and commercial locations. Three of these properties have been determined to be unsafe for occupancy by the health department. A nearby former dry cleaners property is believed to be the source of the contamination. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has conducted indoor air sampling and EPA is currently conducting additional air sampling to further characterize the extent of contamination and evaluating and planning additional response actions for these properties.
