The Kokomo Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Plume site is the general area surrounding the former Midwest Plating Superfund Site located at 1509 North Washington Street, Kokomo, IN. The U.S. EPA conducted a removal action in the mid 1990’s and removed hazardous material tanks, drums, and contaminated soil to the extent possible. All building structures are now demolished and the former plating site is now an open land. The U.S. EPA conducted additional investigations and determined that the groundwater on the site is contaminated with percholoroethylene (PCE) and soil gas in the neighborhood was also contaminated with PCE. EPA plans to perform indoor air sampling at selected residences in the neighborhood for vapors associated with the PCE contamination.
