On April 24, 2019, at 20:26 a diesel release from a punctured pipeline was reported by Magellan Pipeline Co. along an unnamed creek near Cottonwood, MN. The initial report estimated 63,000 gallons of lost diesel which may have entered nearby Cottonwood Lake. OSCs Kleist and Morrison responded to the site the morning of April 25, 2019, upon arrival they learned that Magellan had downgraded the estimated release quantity to approximately 8,400 gallons (200 barrels) and that the local Fire Department had clamped and stopped the leak about 2.5 hours after the reporting. The oil traveled approximately 10 miles downstream in Judicial Ditch 24 to the Yellow Medicine River. Cottonwood lake was upstream from the release.
