At approximately 0100 hours on January 25, 2011, Mar-Flex Waterproofing Products reported at fire at a chemical distribution warehouse at 6866 Christman Lane, Middletown, OH, 45042. Ohio EPA was notified of the fire at approximately 0400 and requested air monitoring assistance from US EPA at 0430 hours. At 0700 hours, US EPA OSC Renninger met with OEPA OSC Dale Farmer, Butler County EMA Director Jeff Galloway, Mar-Flex CEO Brett Oakley. Mar-Flex reported that the fire area included drums containing waterproofing materials containing xylene.
On January 25, 2011 at 0730 hours, US EPA initiated air monitoring utilizing the Rapid Assessment Tool (RAT) in downwind residential areas to support Butler County EMA and Madison Township Fire Department.
