At approximately 1030 hours on Friday, May 30, 2014, a nearly full 45,000 gallon capacity above-ground storage tank ruptured spilling wood treatment solution into secondary containment, onto an asphalt paved lot, and overland into an off-site storm water ditch. The cause of the rupture is still under investigation by the facility operators, McFarland Cascade.

By 2300 hours, spilled solution within the McFarland Cascade fence line had been recovered in an additional storage tank within secondary containment. Spilled solution that had migrated overland to the off-site storm water ditch had been removed via vacuum truck. Approximately 30 cubic yards of contaminated soil from the ditch was excavated and set aside in waste roll-offs for disposal. McFarland Cascade is awaiting the analytical results of confirmation sampling before backfilling the ditch.
