An unknown amount of used oil was released into the waterway near the Port of Iberia Field Office at 4511 South Lewis Road in Port Iberia, LA. EPA was notified of the spill by the USCG at approximately 2330 hours on June 29th. EPA arrived at the scene at 1100 hours on June 30th. After conferring with the USCG, EPA assumed the lead agency role for the cleanup. Oil Mop LLC, a USCG BOA contractor, conducted cleanup activities under EPA direction. Little to no visible oil was atop the water, but the oil had adhered to the shoreline. Cleanup activities were a two-step process of cutting away oiled vegetation and power washing the canal banks to remove remaining oil. Cleanup activities were completed on 2 July 2008. EPA conducted a final inspection of the area on 10 July 2008 and determined that no further action is required.
