On August 24, WFAA and other news outlets are reporting a fire at the Oak Cliff Metals Recycling Plant, just off of I-35 in Waxahachie in Ellis County. Several fire departments have been called in to assist due to lack of fire fighting water (no hydrants in the area).

There are a few houses in the area, but no evacuations or shelter in place have been called at this time. From the video feeds, it appears the plume is drifting away from the houses. The fire has been contained to a few piles of metal and the building itself.

TCEQ has dispatched responders to the scene to determine if any hazardous materials are present.

START has been activated to go down to the scene and provide air monitoring support, as appropriate.
