At approximately 1300 hours on May 21, 2011 Telephone Duty received NRC Report # 976971 followed by a call from GA EPD. EPD requested assistance with a fish kill initially believed to affect a 15 mile stretch of the Ogeechee River. The cause of the fish kill was unknown. GA Fisheries division conducted a survey and had narrowed the potential source to an area above HWY 301. Telephone duty deployed OSC Jardine and a START contractor to respond.

Local governments followed GA EPD lead to issue a no swim and no fish consumption advisory for the following counties: Bryan, Bulloch, Effingham, and Screven.

EPA coordinated activities with GA DNR, GA EPD and local emergency managers and health officials for the affected counties. OSC Jardine along with START contractor have collected environmental samples. The data and other site-related documents are posted on this website (see documents)
