On April 15, 2020, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Phone Duty Officer (PDO) reported an oil discharge from 5, 5-gallon buckets to Opossum Branch Creek approximately 2.5 miles north of Buell, Montgomery County, MO (39.0680, -91.4353). The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) made the initial report to MDNR. MDNR quickly dispatched a State On-Scene Coordinator to conduct an assessment and stabilize the scene. MDNR phoned the National Response Center. The report is documented in NRC Report number 1275452.

MDNR is in the lead on containment and clean-up. The oil project number for this site is E20704. A Pollution Removal Funding Authorization has been issued from EPA to MDNR for work related to this spill.

MoDOT and Missouri State Highway Patrol are working to try to identify a responsible party.
