The Piqua Hospital Site is located at 624 Park Avenue, Piqua, Ohio. The Site is a former hospital. U.S. EPA is planning to conduct a site investigation at the site. The site contains potential asbestos and chemical (mercury, acids, unknowns) hazards.
March 18, 2009 Update: U.S. EPA, Ohio EPA, and RAPCA conducted a site investigation on March 17-18, 2009.
On April 2, 2009, Zeigler Environmental (on behalf of site owner) submitted a Phase 1 Stabilization Work Plan to U.S. EPA. Phase 1 will include covering outdoor asbestos debris piles. U.S. EPA approved the Stabilization Work Plan on April 3, 2009. Phase 1 stabilization was initiated on April 6, 2009.
April 28, 2009 Update: 51 of the 91 broken windows have been sealed to date. All outdoor ACM debris piles have been temporarily stabilized pending offsite disposal. Security and perimeter air monitoring continuing.
May 15, 2009 Update: All broken windows have been boarded and sealed. Boarding and sealing of all remaining windows continuing. Large openings along the north, east, west, and southwest portions of the building have been boarded & sealed. The rooftop has been sampled and contaminated areas stabilized. Stabilization of exterior ACM debris piles continuing. Security and perimeter air monitoring continuing.
June 15, 2009 Update: Phase 2 was initiated in June 2009 including the removal and off-site disposal of outdoor asbestos debris.
August 11, 2009: Phase 2 site activities were completed. Site meeting conducted with EPA, RAPCA, City of Piqua, Piqua Fire Department, Piqua Police Department.
