The Products of America (POA) Site, Sedalia, MO, is a former wire rope spool manufacturing facility that ceased operations in the early 2000's. Following closure of the facility a large quantity of waste was left abandoned in the building. State investigations documented the presence of approximately 1,580 gallons of containerized waste which were characterized as hazardous for ignitability. The site was referred to EPA in 2013 after repeated attempts by the state failed to get the owner to voluntarily conduct necessary cleanup actions under the state’s Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program.
