A truck driver and his passenger were injured the morning of August 30th, after the semi truck he was driving ran off the exit ramp from SR 520 and into the Sammamish Slough on the edge of Marymoor Park.

The accident occurred at about 10 a.m. at the eastbound West Lake Sammamish Parkway exit ramp.

The truck crashed down into the slough, landing on its top and spilling its load of boxes of frozen ground salmon. The driver and passenger were taken to two different hospitals.

The cause of the crash and the occupants'conditions were not immediately known.

Both the exit ramp from SR 520 and West Lake Sammamish Parkway were closed. The Sammamish River Trail was also closed at the scene.

Traffic on eastbound SR 520 was backed up due to the closure of the exit ramp.

A Department of Transportation crew set up a boom in the water to try to contain oil that spilled from the truck.

WDOE requested assistance from EPA due to WDOE being occupied with another potentially large spill in the Puget Sound. EPA OSCs Carl Kitz and Kathy Parker, EPA PIOs Mark MacIntyre and Tony Brown, and 2 START were dispatched to the scene at about 11:00 AM.
