Through coordination with the Washington Department of Ecology, we have identified Coleman Oil, Inc., a fueling facility
near the Columbia River in Wenatchee, Washington, as the source of the diesel spill that was found
leaking into the river on March 17, 2017. The company worked cooperatively with Ecology and EPA officials
to excavate parts of the property and found leaking
pipes and soils saturated with red and yellow biodiesel fuels. The leak has been stopped.
Coleman Oil is currently capturing the oil on the river before it can flow downstream and cause further pollution. Plans to clean up the leaked diesel in the ground and prevent the diesel from flowing to the river are now being developed. The company's cleanup plans are due to the EPA and Ecology on March 29, 2017. Cleanup along the river is expected to occur over the next several weeks.
