EPA began an assessment immediately, and was able to get the homeowner to hire hazardous materials contractors for removal. With help from the ODEQ State On-Scene Coordinator, EPA obtained assistance from a local veterinarian with capture and cleaning of the animals. EPA, through advice and assistance from ATSDR's, also advised the exposed 10-year old and mother (who is pregnant) to seek medical appointments, testing, and advice from their personal pediatrician and physicians. ATSDR provided direct medical contacts and advice for the family through a special medical pediatric unit the University of Washington.

MAY 7, 2017: As of late morning on Sunday, May 7, 2017, cleanup and removal of mercury and mercury-contaminated materials and clothing at the residence was complete, and EPA and cleanup contractors demobilized. Residents and their pets began to re-occupy the home shortly before lunch.

MAY 8, 2017: After final removal by the hazardous materials cleanup contractor, EPA conducted final air monitoring on interior rooms observed that levels of mercury vapor were below the ATSDR indoor air risk levels. Similarly, the outdoor porch concrete and soil were observed to be below risk levels.
