DAYTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a meeting Nov. 15 to update residents on its plan for more testing in homes near the Behr Dayton Thermal Products plant.
The meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria at Kiser School, 1401 Leo St. Ohio Department of Health representatives also will attend.
Tests have shown that ground water near the plant at 1600 Webster St. is contaminated with trichloroethene, an industrial cleaning solvent. The chemical produces vapors that are seeping into some basements.
The agency is seeking access from property owners in the McCook Field neighborhood, south of VanCleve School, to test additional basements.
Residents will not be charged for testing or installation of the vapor-abatement systems.
For more information or to request special accommodations for the meeting, contact Rafael P. Gonzalez, EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, at (800) 621-8431, ext. 60269, or gonzalez.rafaelp@epa.gov.
